5 reasons to put coconut on your face

Coconut skin benefits

Coconut is used widely across the globe, and the uses are endless. From cooking, baking to hydrating coconut water and skin care products.

Coconut oil is packed with saturated fats that will give your skin that tropical glow. Coconut contains high levels of Lauric acid, which is a another saturated fatty acid, however, differentiate itself from the rest of the saturated fats in the coconut by being antimicrobal. Besides these amazing properties of coconut oil it also contain high levels of vitamin E and proteins to boost the collagen and moisture in the skin.

1. Moisturiser

The fatty acids will lock in the moisture in the skin without clogging the pores and leaving any residues. This is the reason many beauty brands including Mrs Manuka incorporate coconut oil in their products.

2. Cleanser

Coconut is a great cleanser. Because coconut oil will soften the pores which will make exfoliation easier. The oil will then seep in to the follicle and get rid of any hardened sebum, by bringing it up to the surface of the skin.

3. Anti microbal and anti fungal

Due to the Lauric acid in coconuts, it will act as an anti bacterial on the skin when applied. This can help to reduce acne and other skin conditions such as ringworm.

4. Reduce the appearance of wrinkles

Collagen is essential in keeping the skin young and lustrous. Luckily coconuts contains collagen proteins. Collagen together with the moisture locking abilities of coconut will make your skin look youthful and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

5. It's hypoallergenic

Many people stay away from products containing coconut oil because it is a tree-nut oil. It does come from coconut trees, however,  coconut is a drupe, not a nut. So a person with peanut or tree-nut allergies can use coconut products.
